Andrew Sullivan

Andrew Sullivan’s “Why I Blog” was a great piece for me to read and help to get a better understanding of why a blog will be a positive thing in my life, and Sullivan also help me understand the way it works. The blogging community to seems to be getting bigger and bigger all the time, but why? According to Sullivan it is due to the openness the write uses as their emotions are pouring through them and combined with the quickness of its sharing potential. But not only does the sharing affect it, but almost more importantly the feed back the readers are able to give back instantly helps to continuously build off a post and be the single location for multiple conversations at once, and everyone can exchange knowledge. Sullivan put a big emphasis on the writer and reader relationship and it seems he does so with good reason.

Sullivan is able to write a piece now and not have to get it checked by editors and then go through publishers in order for people to read what he has to say, its now instant. Along with instant clearly comes a lot less work that is needed on a piece but does include much more room for readers to find error and criticize the writer more than they have ever experienced, and this commenting can come back just as fast, if not faster, than the posting of the original.

And that right there is why I believe Sullivan blogs. He is capable of being able to have hundreds of conversations with people stemming from just his original post. Then from these he is able to gather new information and add it into future posts. It’s a great way to get your opinion out, talk to people about it, learn new things, and then be able to keep track of your changes through life and being able to identify when and why those changes ever occurred.
